Common Stock
Definition
Equity representing ownership and voting rights in a company.
Common stock gives holders an ownership stake, voting rights, and a claim on profits through dividends and price appreciation. Common shareholders rank last in liquidation, behind creditors and preferred holders, but enjoy unlimited upside if the company thrives.
