Finance glossary
Simple Interest
Definition
Interest calculated only on the original principal.
Simple interest is computed solely on the initial principal, ignoring accumulated interest. It grows linearly, making it cheaper for borrowers than compound interest. It is used in some short-term loans and bonds but is rarer than compounding in modern finance.
In a sentence
The short-term loan charged simple interest, calculated only on the original amount borrowed.
