Hard Fork

A permanent split in a blockchain into two separate chains.

A hard fork is a backward-incompatible change to a blockchain protocol that splits it into two chains, sometimes creating a new cryptocurrency. It can arise from upgrades or community disputes. Bitcoin Cash, for example, emerged from a hard fork of Bitcoin.
