Consumer Confidence Index
Definition
A survey measuring how optimistic households feel about the economy.
The Consumer Confidence Index gauges households views on current and future economic conditions through surveys. Because consumer spending drives most economic activity, rising confidence often precedes more spending, while falling confidence can foreshadow a slowdown.
