Accounts Payable
Definition
Money a company owes to its suppliers.
Accounts payable is short-term debt a company owes vendors for goods or services received but not yet paid. It is a current liability, and stretching payment terms can preserve cash, though paying too slowly may strain supplier relationships.
In a sentence
By stretching its accounts payable, the company held onto cash a few extra weeks.
