Wire Transfer

Banking · beginner
Definition

An electronic transfer of funds directly between banks, typically same-day and irreversible once sent.

A wire transfer moves money electronically and directly from one bank account to another, usually settling the same business day, unlike a standard transfer which can take several days to clear. Because a wire transfer is difficult or impossible to reverse once sent, banks generally require extra verification before processing one.

In a sentence

She double-checked the account number twice before authorizing the wire transfer, knowing it couldn't easily be undone.
