Tracking Error
Definition
How much a fund return deviates from its benchmark.
Tracking error measures the volatility of the difference between a fund return and its benchmark. Low tracking error is desirable for index funds aiming to mirror an index, while active managers accept higher tracking error in pursuit of outperformance.
