TIPS
Definition
Treasury bonds whose principal adjusts with inflation.
Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities increase their principal with the Consumer Price Index, so both interest and the final payout keep pace with inflation. They protect purchasing power and are favored when inflation is a concern, at the cost of lower base yields.
