SOFR
Definition
The Secured Overnight Financing Rate, a benchmark replacing LIBOR.
SOFR measures the cost of borrowing cash overnight collateralized by Treasury securities. It replaced LIBOR as the main U.S. benchmark after manipulation scandals, because it is based on actual transactions rather than bank estimates, making it harder to rig.
In a sentence
After LIBOR was retired, the loan's rate was tied to SOFR instead.
