Refinancing
Definition
Replacing an existing loan with a new one, usually on better terms.
Refinancing pays off an old loan with a new one, typically to secure a lower interest rate, change the term, or tap equity. Homeowners refinance mortgages when rates drop. The savings must outweigh closing costs to make refinancing worthwhile.
