R-Squared
Definition
How much of an investment movement is explained by its benchmark.
R-squared ranges from 0 to 100 percent, showing the proportion of a fund movements explained by its benchmark. A high R-squared means the fund closely tracks the index, making its alpha and beta more meaningful; a low value means other factors drive returns.
In a sentence
The fund's R-squared of 95% showed its moves were almost entirely explained by the index.
