Nonfarm Payrolls
Definition
A monthly U.S. report of jobs added outside farming and a few sectors.
Nonfarm payrolls, released monthly by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, count net jobs added or lost across most of the economy, excluding farm work, private household employees, the self-employed, and the military (government jobs are included). It is one of the most market-moving economic releases, shaping expectations for Fed policy.
