Gas Fee
Definition
The cost paid to process a transaction on a blockchain network.
Gas fees compensate the validators or miners who process and validate blockchain transactions. On Ethereum, gas is measured in gwei, a fraction of ETH, and fluctuates based on network congestion. High gas fees were a major criticism of Ethereum before Layer 2 scaling solutions reduced costs.
In a sentence
He waited until network traffic dropped because the gas fee to send the transaction had spiked overnight.
