Breakout
Definition
When a price moves decisively beyond a support or resistance level.
A breakout occurs when an asset price pushes through an established level on rising volume, often signaling the start of a new trend. Traders enter in the direction of the move, but false breakouts that quickly reverse are a common trap. Volume confirmation helps separate real moves from fakes.
In a sentence
Traders piled in on the breakout as the price punched above resistance on heavy volume.
