Definition
The first and largest cryptocurrency, a decentralized digital money.
Bitcoin, launched in 2009 by the pseudonymous Satoshi Nakamoto, is the original cryptocurrency, running on a decentralized blockchain with no central authority. Its supply is capped at 21 million coins, and it is often called digital gold for its role as a store of value.
